This Spicy Yellow Moong Dal is so tasty you will want to make it every day, and you can – because it is so simple and easy-to-make. Unlike traditional methods of making dal with a ghee-loaded tempering, this dal is made without any oil and yet tastes the same.

Method
  1. Clean, wash and soak the yellow moong dal in enough water in a deep bowl for 15 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Combine all the ingredients along with the yellow moong dal and 1½ cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  3. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and whisk well.
  4. Add ¼ cup of water, mix well and bring to boil.
  5. Serve hot.

I am just in love with the cooking style of this recipe... All the ingredients tossed in a pressure cooker and cooked to perfection and my accompaniment to fluffy rotis is ready to be served on the dinner table.

Spicy moong dal makes a nice healthy zero oil dal. The moong dal has a nice soft mouth feel and there is a nice aroma of garlic.
