Veg Lunch Box recipes for Adults and Kids

Here are some lovely Veg Lunch Box Recipes or Tiffin ideas. We have ensured that they are easy, quick and tasty too. We know your time is valuable and have done the planning for you. Enjoy a collection of recipes from Parathas, Wraps, Burgers, Pastas and Rolls.

These Lunch Box ideas and recipes have been tried, tested and modified to ensure that they stay fresh and tasty in your tiffin for at least 5 hours. You will find guidelines for consistency of the food and how to pack them.

We have used parathas like Jowar and Vegetable Paratha. Generally, people are wary of packing millet based Rotis for lunch because they think it would harden. However, when prepared with the right mix of wheat flour and other ingredients like vegetables and spices, they remain soft and tasty for at least 4 to 5 hours.

Rava Idli is something like upma in idli form, so you get the best of both worlds. Since it is steamed, it is easier to digest than upma, has a convenient form factor for serving as well as packing, and stays soft and humid for longer and ideal for your tiffin.

Kids are sure to enjoy this Creamy Pesto Pasta for lunch, as it stays good in the tiffin box for at least 5 hours. However, you must take care not to cook after adding the pesto. It is important to pack it in a slightly moist consistency, so that it does not dry up too much and turn lumpy when it cools down.

Dosa for Tiffin, yup. Agreed, dosas taste the best when they are fresh and crisp, but there is a homely charm to soft, spongy dosas that can be comfortably packed in tiffin boxes or carried along when travelling too. Here is an amazing dosa recipe that does not even require fermentation, but stays fresh in the tiffin box for at least 4 hours.

Veg Lunch Box Recipes For Work

Generally, people are wary of packing millet based Rotis for lunch because they think it would harden. However, when prepared with the right mix of wheat flour and other ingredients like vegetables and spices, they remain soft and tasty for at least 4 hours. This Jowar and Vegetable Paratha with carrot, spinach, roasted jeera and spice powders is not only very tasty but also colourful and pleasant to look at, so kids will feel tempted to bite into them. Quite tasty by themselves, these Parathas can just be rolled up and eaten, without requiring any accompaniment.

Parathas are always a great food to serve to kids, because you can stuff them with all the nice veggies, dals, paneer or whatever you wish your kids would eat! The combination of carrot and spinach suggested for this whole wheat Paushtic Paratha is not only wholesome but also tasty and colourful, so your kids are surely love it. Make sure you add curds while making the dough as it helps keep the parathas soft. Also serve with a bowlful of curd to enrich these folic acid and vitamin A rich parathas with protein and calcium too.

Your kids will not want anything to accompany this tasty dish. This unique Broccoli Paratha has the brilliant flavour of mixed herbs, chilli flakes and pepper. While the flavour is out of the world when served fresh, it fortunately stays nice in the tiffin box too for at least 4 to 5 hours. So, on some days, you can serve this hot and fresh for breakfast or after school, while on some days you can pack it as a tiffin treat! Also pack refreshing Minty Nimbu Paani ( Tiffin Treats) in a thermos flask, so it will be nice and cool to sip on while munching the paratha.
Cumin flavoured rotis are rolled up with a peppy bhindi mixture, which is innovatively flavoured with chaat masala. This Bhindi Wrap stays fresh in the tiffin box for at least 4 to 5 hours, and can be accompanied by a cupful of Curd Dip, again flavoured with chilli and cumin powders, which makes cumin the flavour of the day! If your kid likes the flavour of garlic, you can include some garlic paste in the Curd Dip, else omit it. Pack some Almond Til Chikki for an after lunch sweet treat or for a munch on way back home from school.
An interesting twist to the homely thepla makes it an exciting snack that will fascinate young kids. To make this sumptuous Cheesy Thepla Potato Wrap, fenugreek flavoured theplas are rolled up with a crispy potato mixture, which is flavoured with peppy masalas like amchur powder. You can make the theplas in advance if you wish to save time, but make sure you add enough oil so that it does not dry up and break when rolling. You can even give the thepla and the crispy potato separately, but rolling it up with a layer of cheese spread will make it more handy to eat and tastier too. Pack some Kurmura Chikki also, it will be an after lunch sweet treat for their taste buds.
Delightful to behold, your kids will yearn to grab a bite of these delicious wraps! Pleasant pink coloured Rotis made of whole wheat flour reinforced with grated beetroot are drizzled with hot-and-sweet sauce and packed with a tasteful cauliflower and green peas stuffing. When rolled up tightly and sealed with a toothpick, the wrap is comfortable to handle, without any stuffing spilling out. The fact that it stays fresh in the tiffin box for 5 hours makes this super-duper Cauliflower and Green Peas Stuffed Beetroot Wrap a real winner! Cheesy Thepla Potato Wrap and Masala Bhindi Wrap are other delicious wraps that make a filling tiffin lunch.

With its brilliant flavour and nice, flaky texture, Rava Idli is something like upma in idli form, so you get the best of both worlds. Since it is steamed, it is easier to digest than upma, has a convenient form factor for serving as well as packing, and stays soft and humid for longer. The batter for this is a mixture of rava and curds with a traditional tempering that imparts an enjoyable flavour to the idlis. This Quick Rava Idli does not require any fermentation and will come in very handy when you do not have batter or enough time to prepare anything else in the morning to pack in the tiffin box! You can ready the batter and the idlis fast, and your kids will also really enjoy this yummy treat. For a crunchy bite along with the idlis you can pack a few Cheese Chilli Frisbees in another tiffin.
Tasty, sumptuous and convenient to handle, the Jhatpat Aloo Roll is a wonderful dish to send in your kids’ tiffin box, as it stays fresh for at least 5 hours. While we have made it with fresh rotis you can also make use of leftover rotis to make these rolls, because they will regain enough moisture and flavour from the chutney lining and potato stuffing. The potato mixture is also quite unique in that it combines potatoes with bread for volume and an excellent texture. Not only that, the addition of chaat masala, chilli paste, lemon juice, etc., imparts a tongue-tickling flavour to the rolls, making them really irresistible to your kids. You can also alter this recipe to your kids’ liking by including or omitting ingredients like onions and ginger-garlic paste. If your child has a sweet tooth, pack a sweet delicacy like Date and Almond Balls or Cocoa Walnut Squares in another tiffin for an after lunch treat.

Pesto, a sauce made of nuts and herbs is made richer here by the addition of spinach, which gives it a vibrant colour, unique flavour and creamier texture too. Along with olive oil and cheese, it makes a great home for perfectly cooked fusilli. Kids are sure to enjoy this Creamy Pesto Pasta for lunch, as it stays good in the tiffin box for at least 4 hours. However, you must take care not to cook after adding the pesto. It is important to pack it in a slightly moist consistency, so that it does not dry up too much and turn lumpy when it cools down. Cheese and Vegetable Sticks will make a good combo with the pasta, so do pack some in another tiffin.
Red pumpkin is an ingredient popularly used in continental cuisine, in the preparation of not just soups, but also sauces, dips, toppings and sandwiches too. Here, in this mouth-watering creation, it is used to make a creamy, herby sauce for penne. You might think that pumpkin is not your kids’ favourite, but they will love it in this form, because it makes the dish pleasantly colourful and creamy, without the addition of cheese or cream. The Penne in Pumpkin Sauce also stays fresh in the dabba for more than 4 hours, so your kids can open their boxes for a lovely surprise in the afternoon. Pack Chocolate Chip and Mango Muffin ( Tiffin Recipe) for a sweet ending to the lunch break.
Your kids will jump with joy and thank you for this sumptuous treat! A succulent cutlet of paneer and coarsely crushed green peas gives an exciting twist to this crunchy, juicy, satiating burger. Eggless mayonnaise provides the required creaminess, while veggies and lettuce impart an enjoyable crunch to this Paneer and Green Peas Burger. Interestingly, this burger stays fresh in the tiffin box for around 5 hours, and can be comfortably sent to school for your kids, with all your love! Fat Free Wafers is a good accompaniment to the burger, so do pack some in another tiffin.
Carrot purée is a wonderful addition to whole wheat based white sauce, as it makes it creamier and colourful too. Add to it some cheese and a dash of pepper, and you have a perfect base that kids will love. Throw some macaroni, seasonings and herbs into this creamy sauce, and there you have a yummy treat that kids will devour willingly. The Macaroni in Cheesy Carrot Sauce, prepared as per the given specifications, will stay nice and tasty in the tiffin box for at least 4 hours. Also pack Orange and Tutti Frutti Loaf ( Tiffin Treats for Kids ) in another tiffin, your kid will just love this double treat.
