  1. Soak masoor dal and brown rice in enough water for 30 minutes. Drain well and keep aside.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker, add the cloves, cinnamon, cumin seeds, cardamom and asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  3. Add the onions and garlic paste and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
  4. Add the green peas, potatoes and french beans and sauté on a medium flame for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add the rice, masoor dal, turmeric powder, green chilli paste and salt and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  6. Add 4 cups of water, mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  7. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
  8. Serve hot.

I am surprised that even a normal khichdi can be a good source of iron. The khichdi tastes good and the assortment of vegetables makes this khichdi a complete meal.

A novel way of making a wholesome khichdi! Loved how its nutritious and so tasty at the same time. Great for people who are ill as well, if you reduce the spices..
