Microwave Masoor Dal recipe | Red Lentil Dal (Microwave) | quick Masoor Dal |

The Microwave Masoor Dal recipe, often called Red Lentil Dal (Microwave) or Quick Masoor Dal, is a testament to how traditional Indian comfort food can be adapted for modern, fast-paced lifestyles without compromising on flavor. This recipe offers a remarkably convenient way to prepare a wholesome and delicious lentil dish using the microwave, making it perfect for busy weeknights or when you crave a hearty meal with minimal effort. It transforms simple split red lentils (masoor dal) into a rich, aromatic, and nutritious curry, proving that healthy eating can also be incredibly easy.

The preparation of this Quick Masoor Dal cleverly utilizes the microwave for efficiency. It begins by cooking the main ingredient, masoor dal, with 1½ cups of water in a microwave-safe bowl. This is microwaved on high for about 17 minutes, or until the lentils are perfectly tender. While the dal cooks, a vibrant flavor paste is prepared by combining garlic cloves, green chillies, and chopped ginger (adrak). This aromatic paste forms the backbone of the dal's distinctive taste, adding depth and a gentle heat that is characteristic of Indian cuisine.

A unique aspect of this Microwave Masoor Dal is the creation of a separate chili-infused oil. In a small microwave-safe bowl, 1 teaspoon of oil is microwaved for 30 seconds, then chilli powder is added and mixed well to create a fragrant, spicy oil. This chili-oil mixture is set aside to be incorporated later, providing a burst of color and flavor. Concurrently, in another microwave-safe bowl, the remaining 3 teaspoons of oil are heated, followed by cumin seeds (jeera), which are allowed to crackle for about 20 seconds. This tempering step releases the earthy aroma of cumin, essential for authentic Indian flavors.

Next, the aromatic base for the dal is built. Finely chopped onions are added to the cumin-infused oil and microwaved on high for 1 minute until softened. This quick sautéing in the microwave ensures the onions release their sweetness. Once the onions are ready, the previously cooked masoor dal is combined with finely chopped spinach (palak), finely chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder (haldi), the prepared ginger-garlic-chilli paste, the vibrant chilli-oil mixture, salt to taste, and an additional 1 cup of water. This entire mixture is then thoroughly combined and microwaved on high for another 11 minutes, allowing all the flavors to meld beautifully and the vegetables to cook through.

The final touch to this Red Lentil Dal (Microwave) is the addition of lemon juice just before serving. The fresh tang of lemon brightens the flavors of the dal, adding a zesty finish that complements the richness of the lentils and spices. The dal is mixed well to ensure the lemon juice is evenly distributed. This Quick Masoor Dal is best enjoyed immediately, served hot with fluffy steamed rice (chawal), making for a complete, comforting, and incredibly satisfying meal that comes together with remarkable speed and ease, proving that even traditional dishes can be adapted for modern convenience.

This Microwave Masoor Dal is not just convenient but also highly nutritious. Masoor dal is an excellent source of plant-based protein and dietary fiber, which aids digestion and promotes satiety. Spinach adds a wealth of vitamins (A, C, K) and minerals, while tomatoes contribute antioxidants. The minimal use of oil keeps the fat content low, making it a heart-healthy option. The high fiber content is beneficial for diabetics as it helps regulate blood sugar levels. For weight loss, it's a great choice due to its high protein and fiber, which keep you full, and its low-calorie nature. Its nutrient density and anti-inflammatory spices also make it a good addition for those managing conditions like PCOS.
