Ingredients
To Be Blended Into A Masala
- 3 whole dry Kashmiri red chilli , broken into pieces
- 1 tsp coriander (dhania) seeds
- 2 to 3 clove (laung / lavang)
- 1 tsp poppy seeds (khus-khus)
- 2 tbsp dry grated coconut
- 2 tbsp broken cashew nut (kaju)
Other Ingredients
- 3 tbsp yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
- 3 tbsp chana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 3 tbsp masoor (split red lentil) dal
- salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 1/2 cups finely chopped spinach (palak)
- 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1/2 tbsp ginger-green chilli paste
- 1/2 cup chopped tomato
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Method
- Clean, wash and soak the dals for 2 hours. Blend the dals in a mixer to a coarse powder, without using water.
- Combine the powdered dals, salt, turmeric powder and 1½ cups of water in a microwave safe bowl and mix well. Cover and microwave on high for 10 minutes. Keep aside.
- Heat the oil in another microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.
- Add the spinach, cabbage, ginger-green chilli paste, tomatoes and sugar, mix well and microwave on high for 2 minutes.
- Add the prepared masala, mix well and microwave on high for 2 minutes.
- Add the cooked dal, lemon juice and ¾ cup of water, mix well. Cover and microwave on high for 3 minutes.
- Serve immediately.
