Is Onion Roti healthy?

Onion roti consists of mainly whole wheat flour, onions and fats like ghee and oil. Most of these ingredietns are healthy but there is an issue with the fat amounts used in this roti.

1.  Whole Wheat flour : 1 cup of whole wheat flour is used for 6 rotis. Whole wheat flour is excellent for diabetics as they will not shoot up your blood sugar levles as they are a low GI food. See detailed benefits of whole wheat flour and why its good for you.

2. Onions : 1 cup onions are used in this roti recipe. Onions are a great antioxidant and the sulphur in the onion which brings you tears is actually good for your eyes. Raw onions keep your heart healthy and see here for total benefits of onions

3. Ghee and Oil : The problem with the lovely roti is that it has high fat levels of 9.8 grams of fat from each roti. Some ghee is added to the dough while some oil is added to cooking. Hence this roti is a bit high in calories.

Onion Roti is healthy but a bit high in fat and ruled out for weight loss, diabetics and heart patients. If your healthy, then by all means have this as it has good fat coming from ghee.
