Athletes, sportsmen, dancers and even those recuperating from some health problems are often recommended to have a protein supplement.

However, many people are wary of the contents of commercially available protein powders and whether it will suit them. Not to worry. You can make an effective Homemade Veg Protein Powder easily.

Seeds are tiny treasure-troves of protein and form the bulk of this powder. It is important to roast and blend each seed separately as the texture and density of each seed is different.

If you try to roast and blend them all together, you might not get a fine powder. This protein powder is free of dairy products, grains, nuts and gluten, so it is quite safe for most people.

I am just wondering why you have to dry roast them? I would think that would take some of the nutrients out then doing it with raw seeds? Thank you! Cassandra

Tarla Dalal    The dry roasting is to remove the raw smell and flavour of the seeds.

Protein powder with 5 seeds is really good. But how can we make its shelf life at least 12 months ? Please advise us.
| Hide Replies
Tarla Dalal    We would not advise storing this powder for 12 months as it will lose its flavour over time. The best option is to make in small quantities as mentioned in the recipe and store in an air tight container in the fridge in the spice compartment. It should stay fresh for about 3 to 4 months.

Can this be added to milk n given for kids? Is it necessary that the content should be refrigerated? What could be the shelf life mam?
| Hide Replies
Tarla Dalal    Avoid this powder for kids. The powder is best refrigerated. With milk we haven''t tried this powder. The best way to consume this powder is to add to curd or raita.
