To Be Mixed and Kneaded Into A Smooth Douhg
1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
2 tbsp oil
salt to taste
water as required

For The Filling
1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch turmeric powder (haldi)
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
2 tsp oil
salt to taste
oil as required
  1. Clean, wash and soak moong dal in enough water for an hour. Drain and pressure cook the dal with 1 cup of water for 2 whistles.
  2. Keep aside to cool.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan, add the cumin seeds.
  4. When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida and the cooked dal and saute till mixture is dry.
  5. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well and cook till mixture becomes very dry. Keep aside to cool.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
  7. Take a portion make a small puri, place 2 tbsp of stuffing in center.
  8. Close from all sides and roll again into thick,round paratha.
  9. Heat a tava, place the dal paratha and cook on both sides by adding some oil.
  10. Serve hot.
