Ingredients

For Cabbage Poriyal
2 1/2 cups shredded cabbage
2 tsp coconut oil or oil
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1/2 tsp urad dal (split black lentils)
1 green chilli , slit
2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies , broken into pieces
8 to 10 curry leaves (kadi patta)
a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste

2 tbsp grated coconut

  1. To make cabbage poriyal recipe, heat the oil, add the mustard seeds and urad dal.
  2. When the seeds crackle, add the green chillies dry red chillies, curry leaves and turmeric powder and sauté for few seconds.
  3. Add the cabbage, salt, ¼ cup of water and cook over a medium flame for 6 to 7 minutes or till the cabbage is tender, while stirring occasionally.
  4. Serve cabbage poriyal hot garnished with coconut.

  2. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson). As the mustard seeds splutter in hot oil, they release a pungent, mustardy aroma.
  3. Add ½ tsp urad dal. 
  4. When the seeds crackle, add 1 green chilli , slit.
  5. Add 2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies, broken into pieces. This adds an aesthetically pleasing color to the dish while providing a subtle, smoky warmth.
  6. Add 8 to 10 curry leaves (kadi patta)
  7. Add a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi). It gives a characteristic flavours.
  8. Sauté for few seconds.
  9. Add 2 ½ cups shredded cabbage.
  10. Add salt to taste.
  11. Add ¼ cup of water.
  12. Mix well.
  13. Cook over a medium flame for 6 to 7 minutes or till the cabbage is tender, while stirring occasionally.
  14. Mix well.
  15. Garnished with fresh coconut.
  16. Mix well.

I added cumin seeds while seasoning & chopped coriander leaves along with the grated coconut for garnishing which added more flavor to the dish,....
