1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
salt to taste

How to make rava chilla

  1. To prepare rava chilla recipe | sooji ka cheela | suji ka cheela | instant sooji chilla - Indian breakfast, in a deep bowl take rava.
  2. Add ¾ cup of water. To enhance the flavor of sooji cheela, you can also add some curd.
  3. Mix well with the help of a whisk.
  4. Cover with a lid and keep aside for 20 minutes. Make sure to soak the rava at least for 20 minutes, else the sooji chilla will not taste that good.
  5. After 20 minutes, our sooji will look soft like this after absorbing all the water. You can even soak the rava in water and keep it in the refrigerator overnight and quickly whip up these beautiful rava pancakes in the morning for breakfast.
  6. Add all the other ingredients starting with finely chopped coriander.
  7. Add finely chopped onions. Some people even prefer to top the chilla with veggies later while it is cooking rather than mixing it to the batter.
  8. Add finely chopped green chillies.
  9. Add finely chopped ginger. Add any vegetables of your choice like tomato, carrot, bell pepper, capsicum, cabbage to make it more colorful and nutritious.
  10. Add chilli powder.
  11. Add turmeric powder.
  12. Add asafoetida, salt to taste. For a variation, you can add some more spices or even veggies to this instant sooji chilla - Indian breakfast batter.
  13. Also, add around ¼ cup of water.
  14. Mix well and our suji ka cheela batter is ready. Make sure the batter is lump-free and has a medium-thick consistency.
  15. To cook rava cheela, heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and grease it with ¼ tsp of oil.  Also, you can make use of ghee or butter to give a lovely flavour to our rava chilla.
  16. Pour a ladleful of the batter on it.
  17. Spread it lightly to make a 125 mm. (5”) diameter circle.
  18. Cook sooji ka cheela using 1 tsp of oil till both the sides turn golden brown in colour. It is important to cook rava chilla on a medium flame or else the rava will not get cooked from inside.
  19. Repeat step 15 to 18 and make 5 more rava chillas | sooji ka cheela | suji ka cheela | instant sooji chilla | Remember to stir the batter before pouring it over the pan each time. Sooji has a tendency to settle down at the bottom of the bowl so, always stir the batter before making your rava cheela.
