Special occasions always mean an extra-special menu! For certain occasions like Christmas, Diwali, etc., there are traditional choices, but on occasions like parties and get-togethers, you have the liberty to plan your own menu. You have to decide this based on various factors like the occasion, the age and background of the guests, what time the party is going to be, and so on. What you serve at a cocktail party will be different from what you serve at a birthday party – and even here, a birthday party for kids will be different from one for elders.

Sometimes, you can just choose a couple of interesting recipes. At other times, you can decide on a theme for your party – like Chinese, Italian or Fusion – and plan your items accordingly. When finalising your menu, you must also take into consideration the pre-preparations required and how or when the dishes are to be cooked. If everything has to be made just before serving, then you will never be in time to welcome your guests. So, balance the dishes such that some can be made ahead of time, while some can be prepared fresh.
