Italian Crostini recipes
Crostini is one of the most attractive starters, something nobody has the will power to refuse! Crostini literally means ‘little crusts’ in Italian. These are dainty-looking appetizers made of crisped bread topped with attractive ingredients. A crostini is usually buttered or brushed with olive oil before topping it, so as to give it a richer mouth-feel. In fact, you can just sprinkle some herbs on the buttered crostini and enjoy it as a light snack – even this tastes awesome!
Usually crostini uses a combination of cheese and toppings, so that the toppings are bound properly to the crostini. Alternatively a sauce, salsa or smashed avocadoes can be used to hold the toppings together. Choosing ingredients with contrasting textures gives the crostini an exciting mouth-feel, for example, juicy cherry tomatoes with ricotta cheese, or avocadoes with coconut. You can also pick colourful ingredients like carrots, capsicum, tomatoes and spring onions to give the crostini an irresistible visual appeal. You can also try combining fruits with savoury cheeses and seasonings to widen the spectrum of flavours.
