Poha Khichdi recipe - How to make Poha Khichdi

100 gms moong dal (split green gram)
100 gms beaten rice (poha)
2 tsp sambhar powder
1 tsp jaggery (gur)
3 tsp tamarind (imli) water
2 small sticks of cinnamon (dalchini)
2 cups chopped mixed vegetables (french beans , potatoes , carrots ,
tomato , capsicum and green peas)
1 onion , chopped
salt to taste
oil for cooking
1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
4 to 5 curry leaves (kadi patta)
  1. Soak poha in water for 15 mins.
  2. Combine the moong dal and vegetables and pressure cook for 1 whistle or till half cooked.
  3. Heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.
  4. When the seeds crackle, add the haldi and curry leaves and saute for 10 seconds.
  5. Add the onions and saute till they turn golden brown.
  6. Add the dal, vegetables, drained poha, salt, sambar powder, jaggary, tamarind juice and enough water, mix well and cook on low fire for 10 more mins.
  7. Serve hot.
