Restaurant-Style Tomato Pulao is an all-time favourite recipe all over the country.

Tantalizingly tangy with a balanced touch of spices, this pulao has a distinct flavour, which everybody loves.

It is loaded with veggies, which give it a vibrant mouth-feel. You will surely enjoy the mix of flavours and textures in this dish.

  1. Heat the oil in a broad non-stick pan, add the cumin seeds and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
  2. Add the onions, ginger and garlic and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the capsicum and sauté on medium flame for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the tomato cubes and green peas, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the tomato pulp, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the rice, coriander and lemon juice, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot.

Tips to cook the perfect rice for Tomato Pulao

  1. Clean and wash the rice. Soak the rice in a deep bowl with enough water for 30 minutes drain and keep aside.
  2. Boil 2 cups of water in a deep non-stick pan, add the rice and salt, mix gently and cook on a high flame for 7 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Drain well.

Homemade Restaurant Style Tomato Pulao recipe

  1. Heat the oil in a broad non-stick pan, add the cumin seeds and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds. You can also make this pulao in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add the onions and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the ginger, garlic and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes. Freshly pounded ginger-garlic has a unique flavour, always try crushing in the mortar-pestle before starting the cooking process. 
  4. Add the capsicum and sauté on medium flame for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the tomato cubes. Ensure the tomatoes are fresh and ripe.
  6. Add the green peas, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally. You can utilize all the leftover vegetables present in your refrigerator.
  7. Add the tomato pulp and mix well. My brother adds tomato ketchup & pavbhaji masala to give Tomato pulao a sweet-spicy flavor, you can try that too. 
  8. Add the chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally. You can adjust the spice levels according to your personal preference.
  9. Add the cooked rice and coriander, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally. 
  10. Add the lemon juice and mix well.
  11. Serve hot. Relish it with plain curd , raita and masala papad. This is a quick one-pan recipe. You can carry it in your dabba to work or pack it for your kids lunchbox.
