Pongal rice is a South Indian rice preparation with vegetables, rice, lentil and spices.A South Indian take on popular khichdi recipe, pongal rice is often served with sambhar or coconut chutney. A sweet variation of pongal rice is also popular.

Method

  1. Take a non stick pan and pour ghee in it.
  2. Then fry the cashewnuts and pepper.
  3. Keep it aside.
  4. Then fry the green gram also.
  5. Boil 4 cups of water and pour into the pan.
  6. Boil the rice in this water and when rice is half cooked, put salt and ginger pieces.
  7. When rice is fully cooked,put the cashewnuts and pepper.
  8. Serve hot with coconut chutney.
  9. (if the green gram is soaked in water for 4 hrs., then it will be easy to boil).
