Mangalore Goli Bhaje recipe - How to make Mangalore Goli Bhaje

2 cups plain flour (maida)
1 1/2 tbsp besan (bengal gram flour)
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp chopped green chillies
1/2 tbsp grated ginger (adrak)
few thin slices of coconut
oil for deep frying
  1. Combine the plain flour, besan, baking soda, sugar, salt buttermilk and water in a deep bowl, mix well.
  2. The consistency of the batter should be slightly thick (dropping consistency). Keep aside for 1-2 hours.
  3. Add the green chillies, ginger and coconut to the batter and mix well.
  4. Heat the oil in kahai, drop 1 tsp of the batter into the hot oil and deep fry till it is crispy and golden brown in colour.
  5. Repeat for the rest of the batter to make more bhaje.
  6. Serve hot with spicy chutney.
