Makhni Dal recipe - How to make Makhni Dal

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 4 to 6 servings

500 gms urad (whole black lentil)
50 gm channa dal (yellow lentis)
60 ml oil
380 gms butter
200 gms ginger-garlic (adrak-lehsun) paste
300 gms fresh cream
20 gms chilli powder
5 gms garam masala
10 gms fenugreek (methi) leaves leaves powder
850 gms tomato puree
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder
salt to taste
  1. Boil well, wash and rinse the lentils in water until they are tender and floury-soft.
  2. While boiling, add salt and oil.
  3. Heat butter with a dash of oil in a casserole.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste, chilli powder, cumin seeds powder, tomato puree and saute until oil separates.
  5. Add boiled lentils and toss well with masala.
  6. Add fenugreek leaf powder, butter and cream.
  7. Now add garam masala and simmer until it gets a smooth consistency.
  8. Add butter on top before serving.
