What’s more, this healthy jar snack is made with whole wheat flour and is baked instead of deep-fried, unlike the traditional version.

It is quite easy to make, so you can make a batch once in a while and keep it handy to munch on whenever hunger strikes. You can even pack it in your kids tiffin box for snack break or take a few to work.

Preparation Time:    Baking time:  35 to 40 minutes   Baking temperature:  180°C (360°F)   Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 18 mathris
Show me for mathris

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and knead into a semi- stiff dough using enough water.
  2. Divide the dough into 18 equal portions.
  3. Roll out a portion of the dough into a 100 mm. (4”) diameter circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling.
  4. Pinch the edges of the rolled mathri to form a design.
  5. Prick the mathri with a fork at regular intervals.
  6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 to make 8 more mathris.
  7. Bake them in a pre-heated oven at 180ºc (360ºf) for 15 minutes, turn them over and bake again for 10 minutes.
  8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 to roll and bake one more batch.
  9. Cool, serve or store in an air-tight container.

The mathris are too easy to make and very tasty. But I have a question. The mathris are quite sof in the middle. What could be the reason? Where did I go wrong ? Please suggest

Tarla Dalal    Hi Rajwant, one os the reason could be uneven rolling, the mathris need to be rolled out equally. Also, you can increase the baking time for 5 minutes and check if they are evenly bakes.
