  1. Heat the butter in a vessel and fry the onions for a little time.
  2. Add the chopped vegetables and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Add 7 teacups of water and the barley, marmite an salt.
  4. Boil for 10 minutes.
  5. Add pepper and serve hot.
