Chat Pati Frankies | vegetable Frankie | paneer veg frankie for kids |

Chat Pati Frankies, a vibrant and flavorful Indian street food, are a delightful fusion of textures and tastes, offering a wholesome meal wrapped in a convenient package. At its heart, this recipe combines a spiced vegetable and paneer filling, expertly cooked and nestled within a warm chapati, then garnished with fresh vegetables and a sprinkle of tangy chaat masala. It’s a perfect illustration of how simple ingredients can come together to create something truly exciting and satisfying.

The star of the Chat Pati Frankie is its savory filling, a rich blend that begins with mashed boiled potatoes, forming a comforting base. To this, crumbled paneer (Indian cottage cheese), grated carrot, and cheese are added, contributing creaminess, subtle sweetness, and a delightful richness. The mixture is then elevated with a generous seasoning of chaat masala, lemon juice, and a touch of salt. This combination ensures that the filling is not just hearty but also bursting with the signature tangy and spicy "chat pata" flavor.

Once the filling mixture is prepared, it's divided into equal portions and skillfully shaped into oblong rolls. These rolls are then cooked on a non-stick tawa (griddle) with a minimal amount of oil until they achieve a beautiful golden-brown crust on all sides. This cooking method ensures the rolls are heated through and slightly crispy on the exterior, adding another textural dimension to the frankie without making it excessively oily, which is often the case with deep-fried alternatives.

The foundation of the frankie is a warm, soft chapati. Traditionally, frankies use a special type of bread called a "frankie roti," but a standard warm chapati works perfectly well, providing a pliable and comforting wrap for the filling. The chapati acts as a neutral canvas, allowing the bold flavors of the filling and garnishes to truly shine, while also making the frankie easy to hold and eat on the go.

Assembling the Chat Pati Frankie is where the magic comes alive. A warm chapati is laid flat, and the cooked, oblong paneer and vegetable roll is placed strategically in its center. The frankie is then further adorned with crisp capsicum strips and juicy tomato strips, adding freshness, a slight crunch, and a burst of color. A final sprinkle of chaat masala over these fresh vegetables ties all the flavors together, enhancing the overall "chat pata" experience and leaving a memorable tangy zest.

Finally, the frankie is tightly rolled, creating a neat, portable meal that's perfect for a quick snack, a light lunch, or even a party appetizer. The combination of the soft chapati, the flavorful and textured filling, the fresh vegetables, and the tangy spices makes each bite an explosion of taste. Served immediately, often with a side of tomato ketchup, these Chat Pati Frankies are a delightful and customizable treat that perfectly captures the essence of Indian street food in a homemade, wholesome format.

Easy and healthy...although I think it would have been better to use at least grilled or blanched capsicum...can also add boiled sweet corn and spring onions with some soy and chilli sauce to have a Chinese twist
