A chocolate-based cake is the easiest way to flatter kids, and even adults for that matter. And, with this easy microwave chocolate sponge cake in 5 minutes it can be prepared very quickly.

The best part is that the microwave chocolate sponge cake in 5 minutes makes use of common ingredients like flour, butter and curds found in most Indian kitchens. So, you need not worry about even a last minute shopping expedition.

Other Cake recipes

    1. Cakes are baked goodies generally prepared on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Chocolate and vanilla are two popular sponge cakes. You can slice up a cake from between and make a layered cake or simply top it up with a frosting or icing and make it more elaborate. Cakes can be decorated further with fruits, candies, dried fruits, etc. Here are some chocolate cakes you might want to try :
Batter for chocolate sponge cake

    1. To begin making the batter for microwave chocolate sponge cake, in a bowl take curd. Homemade curd is generally watery, try to get rid of extra water and make use of nice thick curd for this cake recipe. If not using homemade curd, buy Greek yogurt from market for best results.
    2. Add baking soda. Check the use by date and make use of good quality, fresh baking soda or else your chocolate sponge cake will turn flat.
    3. Mix gently and keep aside.
    4. In another deep bowl, place a sieve and add plain flour.
    5. Add cocoa powder. Using a good quality dark cocoa powder is very important to get maximum flavours in your chocolate sponge.
    6. Sift together and keep it aside.
    7. Pour ¼ cup of water in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute. You can make use of full-fat milk instead of water to make the cake more rich but, ensure it is on room temperature as it emulsifies better.
    8. Add melted butter. You can also make use of vegetable oil or olive oil as a substitue.
    9. Add sugar. I recommend using powdered sugar or castor sugar instead of granulated sugar because sugar granules do not melt completely in the microwave.
    10. Mix well.
    11. Add plain flour mixture.
    12. Add curd-baking soda mixture.
    13. Add vanilla essence. You can replace it with vanilla powder or scrape a fresh vanilla pod or make use of any other essence of your choice for flavouring.
    14. Mix lightly with a spatula till no lumps remain. While combining dry and wet ingredients, ensure you do not over-mix. By over-mixing, you will knock out all the air and end up with a dense cake.

    2. Spoon the cake batter into it and  gently tap to pop any air bubbles.
    3. Transfer to a microwave and microwave on high for 4 minutes. Remove from microwave and allow the cake to stand for approx. 5 minutes.
    4. Insert a knife or toothpick in the center of chocolate sponge cake and check whether it’s cooked well or no.

Can I substitute sugar with honey, as I am diabetic.

user
Tarla Dalal

Aug. 31, 2020, 4:26 p.m.

Dear Anagha, Honey can also lead to a spike in blood sugar levels. it is best recommended that you consult your dietitian and consider having sweets occasionally in small quantities as a part of a well planned diet. For eg. If you have small piece of cake, you will have to cut down on other carbs in the meal.

Hi Mridusmita, I am sharing two links of the microwave cake recipes below: 1)https://www.tarladalal.com/Eggless-Chocolate-Cake-Using-Microwave--(-Cakes-and-Pastries-)-33304r 2) https://www.tarladalal.com/Eggless-Vanilla-Sponge-Cake-in-A-Microwave-33313r . Please follow them exact for a nice cake. We do not recommend to microwave cakes if oven is not available reason being both the temperatures and measurement to make and bake the cake are different.
