🌶️ Garlic Chutney | Gujarati Lehsun Chutney | Spicy Garlic Chutney

Garlic Chutney is a fiery, flavorful condiment that instantly elevates any Indian meal! Made with just a few simple ingredients — garlic cloves, chilli powder, lemon juice, and a touch of salt — this chutney packs a punch that’s both spicy and aromatic. It’s a must-try for those who love bold, earthy flavors that awaken the taste buds.

The main ingredients for this Gujarati Lehsun Chutney are incredibly simple: ½ cup peeled garlic cloves, 3 tablespoons of chilli powder, ½ tablespoon of lemon juice, and salt to taste. If you’re health-conscious, you can use restricted salt to make it heart-friendly without compromising on taste. The sharpness of garlic beautifully blends with the heat of chilli powder, while lemon juice adds a tangy twist that balances the spice.

To prepare this spicy garlic chutney, simply combine all the ingredients in a mixer and blend to a smooth paste using very little water (around 2 tablespoons). Traditionally, Gujaratis would make this chutney using a grinding stone (sil batta) for a coarse, rustic texture, but modern mixers make it quick and convenient to whip up in minutes!

Once prepared, you can serve the chutney immediately with snacks like pakodas, bhajias, or samosas. It’s also a delicious side for theplas, rotis, and parathas. For longer use, store it in an air-tight container and refrigerate — it stays fresh for 10 to 15 days without losing its bold flavor. This makes it a handy accompaniment to everyday meals and street-style snacks.

Apart from its taste, Garlic Chutney has several health benefits. Garlic is known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and cholesterol-lowering properties. It helps in improving heart health, boosts immunity, and supports better digestion. However, since it contains chilli powder and salt, individuals with acidity or high blood pressure should enjoy it in moderation.

Can diabetics, heart patients, and overweight individuals have garlic chutney?
Yes, but in small quantities. Garlic helps manage cholesterol and blood sugar levels, making it beneficial for diabetics and heart patients. Just ensure the chutney is made with limited salt and oil-free ingredients. For best results, pair it with healthy snacks or whole-grain dishes rather than fried foods.
