Ram Ladoo |  Moong Dal Pakora | Delhi Street Food | Green Gram Fritters |

Ram Ladoo, also known as Moong Dal Pakora or Green Gram Fritters, is one of the most beloved Delhi Street Foods, enjoyed for its crispy texture and tangy, spicy toppings. Despite its name, this dish is not a sweet ladoo but a savory chaat that delights with every bite. Made from a blend of yellow moong dal and chana dal, the fritters are golden and crunchy on the outside while soft and airy inside. When topped with chutneys, grated radish, and spices, they transform into an irresistible street-style snack that captures the true essence of North Indian flavors.

To prepare the Ram Ladoo, the dals are first soaked for four hours and then ground into a smooth paste with a little water. This batter is then mixed with ginger, green chillies, crushed cumin seeds, asafoetida, coriander, and salt — ingredients that infuse the mixture with warmth and spice. Small spoonfuls of this batter are dropped into hot oil and deep-fried until golden brown, resulting in light, crisp fritters. The combination of moong dal and chana dal gives these pakoras a balanced flavor — mildly nutty, hearty, and satisfying.

Once fried, the Green Gram Fritters are turned into a delicious chaat-style dish. They are served warm on a plate, topped with green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, and a generous handful of grated radish (mooli). The chutneys bring a tangy-sweet-spicy contrast, while the radish adds crunch and freshness. A sprinkle of chaat masala, lemon juice, and coriander enhances the aroma and gives the dish its iconic street-style zing. Each element complements the other perfectly, making Ram Ladoo a multi-layered taste experience.

What makes Ram Ladoo so special is its unique texture and flavor profile. The fritters themselves are airy and light, and when soaked slightly by the chutneys, they take on a melt-in-the-mouth quality. The crunch of the radish, the zing of the lemon juice, and the tanginess of the chutneys create a perfect balance of flavors — spicy, sour, sweet, and savory all at once. It’s a snack that stimulates every taste bud, reminding you why Delhi’s street food is so iconic across India.

Apart from being incredibly tasty, Ram Ladoo is also simple and affordable to make, using easily available ingredients like dals, spices, and herbs. It’s a protein-rich snack, thanks to the lentils, and makes for a great vegetarian appetizer or evening treat. Many households in North India prepare this snack during monsoons or festive gatherings, serving it fresh and hot with a side of extra chutney. Its quick preparation and wholesome ingredients make it a hit among both kids and adults.

In essence, Ram Ladoo represents the soul of Indian street food — humble, flavorful, and full of character. It’s a snack that brings people together, whether enjoyed on a bustling Delhi street corner or at home with family. With its crisp fritters, vibrant chutneys, and refreshing toppings, the Moong Dal Pakora Chaat is a perfect example of how simple ingredients can create magic on the plate. Serve it immediately for the best experience — a warm, tangy, and utterly delicious bite of Delhi!
