I had never heard of khichu before and I was surprised at how tasty it was for such a simple-looking dish! I often have it for breakfast. It is filling without being heavy. The only changes I make are to omit the chilli powder as I don't want it to be too hot and I put lemon juice instead of curds. Also mostly I cook it in the microwave, as suggested in one of the other khichu recipes for speed and ease. It's a quick and tasty way to consume nutrient-rich ragi.

I used the gems for all the numbers as I ran short of gelatine for preparing the dough.For the hands I used the sugar sticks readyly available in the market.One stick i cut short and adjusted for the hands of the clock and served this vacation for kiddys party.All enjoyed.Simply yummy!

Two things that make this recipe extra special: a. roasted and breaking the red chillies. b. This one can easily miss everyone - salting the methi and squeezing out the water. Very very rarely does someone get the methi alu recipe right, and the reason they go weong is in not removing the methi moisture. If not done, when you add it to the aloo, it happily lets out close to 3/4 cup of water and the methis gets a boiled taste and the aloo is beyond recognition. Today I discovered the secret . Really happy! (and I have been cooking for 30 years :), so imagine how a simple truth can miss you!
