One serving of dal or kadhi means? And what is the size of cup means how much ml?

tried this recipe was really tasty and creamy added a little more sugar than the recipe but was too good had it with chapati and papad..

I have made this only one time before, a couple of years ago. I found this recipe last night and made it tonight along with khichdi. Needless to say my husband was very happy. Turned out like moms, he said.
