Microwave Green Peas Dhokla: Instant Delights for a Savory Snack
Craving a savory snack but short on time? This Microwave Green Peas Dhokla recipe is the perfect solution. It offers a fresh, fluffy, and delicious dhokla in minutes, without the need for a traditional steamer. By using the microwave, you can enjoy this classic Gujarati snack as if by magic. The secret lies in a simple batter of besanand crushed green peas, which cooks quickly and evenly, giving you a mouthwatering treat that's perfect for any time of day.
The Dhokla Batter: A Blend of Flavors
The base of this quick dhokla is a well-balanced batter that combines the earthy flavor of besan with the fresh sweetness of green peas. All the ingredients, including the ginger-green chilli paste for a spicy kick and powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness, are mixed together with water. The magic ingredient, fruit salt, is added just before cooking. This creates a chemical reaction that makes the dhokla batter light and airy, ensuring a fluffy texture once cooked.
Cooking the Dhokla in the Microwave
The convenience of this recipe lies in its microwave cooking method. The dhokla batter is poured into a greased microwave-safe dish and cooked on high for just three minutes. This process is much faster than traditional steaming and yields a perfectly cooked, spongy dhokla. Once the dhokla is done, it's essential to let it stand for a couple of minutes. This allows the heat to distribute evenly and the dhokla to set, making it easy to handle and cut.
Preparing the Tempering: The Final Flourish
No dhokla is complete without its signature tempering. This recipe makes the tempering just as quick and easy as the dhokla itself. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, oil and mustard seeds are heated on high. When the seeds begin to splutter, green chillies and a pinch of asafoetida (hing) are added. This fragrant tempering is then poured over the cooked dhokla, infusing it with a zesty and aromatic flavor that elevates the entire dish.
Garnishing and Serving: The Perfect Finish
Once the tempering is poured, the dhokla is ready to be cut into neat square pieces. A final garnish of finely chopped coriander and fresh grated coconut not only adds a beautiful visual appeal but also a burst of fresh flavor and texture. This quick dhokla recipe is best enjoyed hot and served immediately with a side of green chutney. It's a testament to how simple ingredients and a clever cooking method can create a truly irresistible treat that's both healthy and delicious.

5 stars. It is really so easy. I have tried it in the microwave and the stove top steam method, both are very good. I also substituted the peas with grated baby marrow.
