Arabic Salad recipe | Lebanese salad Recipe | Simple Middle Eastern Vegetarian Salad |
The Arabic Salad, often known as Lebanese Salad or simply Simple Middle Eastern Salad, is a refreshing and vibrant dish that captures the essence of Mediterranean cuisine. It's renowned for its crisp textures, bright flavors, and the delightful interplay of fresh vegetables and aromatic herbs. This salad isn't just a side dish; it's a celebration of simple, wholesome ingredients coming together to create a light yet incredibly satisfying experience, perfect for any meal or occasion. Its ease of preparation makes it a go-to choice for a quick, healthy addition to your table.
The Fresh Ingredients
The beauty of this Arabic Salad lies in its selection of fresh, crisp ingredients. It features a generous base of 1 cup of iceberg lettuce, providing a cool, crunchy foundation. Adding bursts of color and sweetness are ½ cup of vibrant cherry tomatoes, perfectly complemented by ½ cup of refreshing cucumber cubes. A mix of 5 black olives and 5 green olivesintroduces a briny, salty counterpoint, while ½ cup of fragrant chopped mint leaves (phudina) infuses the entire salad with an invigorating freshness that is characteristic of Middle Eastern flavors.
The Zesty Dressing
What truly elevates this Simple Middle Eastern Salad is its incredibly flavorful and zesty dressing. This isn't your typical creamy dressing; it's light, tangy, and designed to enhance the natural flavors of the vegetables. The dressing is simply a combination of 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, providing a bright, citrusy punch. A crucial addition is ½ teaspoon of Lebanese 7 spice powder, a unique blend that imparts a warm, aromatic depth to the salad. A hint of tartness comes from ¼ teaspoon of pomegranate (anardana) powder, which adds a distinctive fruity tang, all balanced with salt to taste.
Effortless Preparation
Preparing this Lebanese Salad couldn't be easier, making it ideal for even the busiest of days. The main procedure involves just a few simple steps. All the fresh salad ingredients – the iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumber cubes, black olives, green olives, and chopped mint leaves – are combined in a large mixing bowl. The components for the dressing are then whisked together until well blended.
Serving Perfection
Once the ingredients are combined and the dressing is ready, the final step is to bring them together just before serving. The vibrant dressing is poured over the mixed salad ingredients. A quick, gentle toss ensures that every piece of vegetable and herb is coated with the aromatic, tangy dressing. This immediate serving is key to maintaining the salad's crispness and vibrant flavors. Served fresh, this Arabic Salad makes for a delightful and wholesome accompaniment to grilled meats, rice dishes, or as a light meal on its own.
A Healthy and Versatile Addition
This Arabic Salad recipe is not just delicious but also incredibly healthy and versatile. It's naturally low in calories and packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber from the fresh vegetables. The use of lemon juice and minimal olive oil keeps it light and refreshing. It pairs wonderfully with a variety of main courses, from traditional Middle Eastern kebabs and falafel to grilled fish or chicken. It's a fantastic way to boost your daily vegetable intake, adding a burst of freshness and authentic flavor to your culinary repertoire.
