Do you have the will power to say ‘no’ to a cup of warm and delicious halwa? Well, most of us do not. However, health conditions like high blood pressure often make us refuse such treats with a heavy heart.
Nonetheless, we have come up with some interesting recipes, which can be enjoyed occasionally even by those with high blood pressure, and this Sweet Potato Halwa is one such.
Rich in nutrients and relatively low in calories, this halwa makes a great dessert for any Indian meal. It is made with sweet potatoes, which are good for those with high BP due to the low sodium and high potassium content.
Since sweet potato is naturally sweet, very little sugar is required in this recipe. You can enjoy the Sweet Potato Halwa hot, or allow it to cool and refrigerate. Either way, it is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way.

- Combine the warm milk and saffron in a small bowl, mix well and keep aside.
- Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick pan and add the mashed sweet potatoes and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
- Add the milk, sugar, cardamom powder and ½ cup water, mix well cook on medium flame for 6 to 7 minutes or till the mixture starts to leave the sides of the pan, while stirring continuously.
- Add the saffron-milk mixture and nuts, mix well and cook on medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Serve hot.
