Chocolate Vanilla and Orange Sandesh | Bengali Mithai |
Chocolate Vanilla and Orange Sandesh is a delightful Bengali mithai that beautifully combines the richness of cocoa, the smoothness of vanilla, and the tangy freshness of orange in one exquisite sweet. Made using soft sandesh, a traditional Bengali delicacy crafted from chenna (fresh paneer) and sugar, this tri-flavored treat is a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern taste. With its stunning swirl of colors and flavors, this mithai is perfect for festive occasions, celebrations, or as a showstopper dessert for guests.
To prepare, the sandesh mixture is divided into three equal portions. Each portion is then flavored differently to create a trio of taste sensations — cocoa powder for the rich chocolate layer, vanilla essence for the classic creamy layer, and orange crush for a refreshing citrus note. Each mixture is kneaded until smooth, ensuring that the flavors blend evenly into the soft sandesh base. These three variations will form the colorful layers that make this mithai visually and gastronomically appealing.
Next, the vanilla sandesh is rolled out on a plastic sheet into a 175 mm (7”) circle, followed by the chocolate sandesh, which is rolled to the same size. The chocolate layer is carefully placed on top of the vanilla layer, creating a dual-toned sheet that forms the base. The orange sandesh is shaped into a 7-inch long cylinder and placed on one side of the layered circle, ready to be rolled into a beautiful swirl of three distinct flavors.
Using the help of the plastic sheet, the entire layered sandesh is rolled tightly from the side where the orange cylinder is placed, ensuring that the roll is firm and even. The edges are sealed completely, locking in the flavors and creating a perfect cylindrical log. This sandesh roll is then wrapped in plastic and refrigerated for 4 to 5 hours, allowing it to set well and hold its shape for neat slicing.
Once chilled, the plastic covering is removed, and the roll is sliced into 10 even pieces. Each slice reveals a stunning spiral of chocolate, vanilla, and orange layers, making it as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the taste buds. The texture is soft, melt-in-the-mouth, and perfectly balanced with the richness of chocolate, the sweetness of vanilla, and the refreshing zest of orange. Serve chilled to enjoy its best flavor and form.
This Chocolate Vanilla and Orange Sandesh is a creative twist on the traditional Bengali Sandesh, bringing together modern flavors in a classic mithai format. The use of just chenna and sugar as the base keeps it authentic, while the addition of flavored layers gives it a contemporary touch. Whether served at festive gatherings, gifted to loved ones, or enjoyed as a special homemade indulgence, this mithai offers a harmonious blend of taste, color, and texture — a true celebration of Bengal’s sweet heritage with a modern flair.

My brother challenged me to make a Bengali sweet dish recipe so, I tried this recipe. Failed for the first time because I didn''t knead the chenna properly but, on my second attempt it looked just like yours. Thanks for the recipe Tarla Ma''am.
