Summer is not my favourite season and I don’t look forward to Mumbai’s long, hot and humid days. This year I managed to escape the heat in the city for a few days by taking short trips to Pune and Ahmedabad where I demonstrated some of my recipes for groups of enthusiastic ladies, and I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. Recently my granddaughters Anya and Aria and their best friends decided to surprise me with their culinary abilities and what a great spread they created - it was enough to make me forget the bad weather! Children everywhere eagerly await the vacations when they can forget about their school work and concentrate on having a good time. To prevent boredom from seeping into their summer holidays, I suggest you introduce them to the kitchen. With some simple recipes and plenty of encouragement, kids can turn out to be quite clever when it comes to whipping up tempting food. Take a look at what Anya and Arya prepared along with their friends – it’s bound to inspire kids to follow suit. This issue is especially dedicated to children and mothers, and is full of interesting suggestions to keep both cool and happy. Mothers who worry about whether they are feeding their kids the right kind of food will appreciate the article on age-appropriate food that provides kids with the nutrients they need. Those energetic enough to host a brunch on a Sunday afternoon will enjoy our special summer menu. Featuring light and refreshing recipes, it is perfect for a gathering of friends and family. If you are the type of person that enjoys authentic regional cuisine, our article on a typical Maharashtrian meal is just for you. Maharashtrian food is basically lighter than other regional food and in the hot weather, makes a good option. Another interesting piece is the one of using an uttapa pan to cook up some innovative dishes. For our health conscious readers, we have range of informative articles. Discover how to cope with celiac disease, more commonly known as gluten intolerance. This condition is commonly found in young children but the good news is that the symptoms can be controlled with a little care. Dr. Nupur Krishnan also throws light on gouty attacks, while Usha Sariaya tells us more about polycystic ovaries. There is a lot to read in this issue, including our popular regular features for diabetics and Jains. From this issue onwards we will also feature prize winning recipes from our page on Facebook along with some useful tips. So, eat well this summer, but remember not to eat too much! And don’t forget to remain hydrated all the time. Stay cool and God bless!
