What is blue colour?


Approved Blue food colour, available in powder or liquid form, is used to colour syrups, cakes, ice creams etc. Brilliant Blue FCF, a reddish blue powder, is an approved artificial colouring which is used commercially. Food colouring, or colour additive, is any dye, pigment or substance that imparts color when it is added to food or drink. They come in many forms consisting of liquids, powders, gels and pastes. Food colouring is used both in commercial food production and in domestic cooking. Butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea), a blue food dye is one of the permitted food colour allowed in our country to be used in food industries.

Choose the food colour from various brands available in market. Always remember to check for expiry dates and seal of the pack.

• People associate certain colours with certain flavours, and the colour of food can influence the perceived flavour in anything from candy to wine.
• Sometimes the aim is to simulate a colour that is perceived by the consumer as natural and sometimes it is for effect.
• Colour additives are recognized as an important part of many foods we eat.
