  1. Heat 1/2tsp oil in kadai and roast urad dal and chillies.
  2. Dry roast til and keep aside to cool.
  3. Wash and cut tomatoes into four .
  4. Heat 1/2 tsp oil again and add the tomato pieces.
  5. Add a little bit of salt and a pinch of turmeric.
  6. Cover and let cook.
  7. Keep aside to cool.
  8. Grind the roasted ingredients ina mixer to a fine powder.
  9. Add the cooked tomatoes to the powder and grind to a fine paste.
  10. Heat 2-3 tsp oil in kadai.
  11. Add mustard and hing.
  12. When mustard starts spluttering add the tomato paste,salt and a pinch of turmeric.
  13. Keep stirring till the oil satrs leaving the paste.
  14. If required 2-3 tsp oil may be added.
  15. Serve with plain rice or idlis and dosas.
  16. Raw green tomatoes may also be used instead of ripe ones.
  17. Use green chillies instead of red ones with raw tomatoes
