Tomatoes take on a completely different hue when combined with Oriental sauces, vinegar and sugar. This low-calorie sauce is thickened with a minimal amount of cornflour and squashed using a potato masher to get a coarse texture. The Sweet and Sour Sauce is a versatile one, which lends itself to noodles and rice preparations, apart from being a wonderful accompaniment to snacks.
- Combine all the ingredients in a broad non-stick pan, along with 1 tbsp of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Mash it lightly using a potato masher and cook on a medium flame for 2 more minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Use as required.
