  1. Heat the oil in a pan and add the urad dal and red chilies and saute for a minute.
  2. Add the onions and salt and saute till the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Remove from the flame and keep aside to cool.
  4. Add the tamarind , brown sugar and blend in a mixer into a smooth paste.
