Special Dal Makhani recipe - How to make Special Dal Makhani

  1. Combine the dal and tomatoes in a deep pan with a pinch of turmeric powder, add enough water and cook till the dal is soft.
  2. Keep aside.
  3. Heat the butter in a pan, add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  4. When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida, curry leaves and green chillies and saute for few seconds.
  5. Add the onions and saute till they turn golden brown in colour.
  6. Add the coriander seeds powder, turmeric and chilli powder, mix well and saute for few more seconds.
  7. Remove from the flame, add the dal and tomatoes and whisk well.
  8. Add 1 cup of water and bring it to a boil.
  9. Serve hot garnished with coriander and with rotis or plain rice.
