Sabut Moong Dal Paratha recipe - How to make Sabut Moong Dal Paratha

For The Stuffing
2 tsp oil
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
2 cups moong dal (split green gram) , soaked
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
salt to taste
2 onions , chopped
chopped coriander (dhania) (dhania)
2 to 3 green chillies , chopped

For The Dough
3 cups plain flour (maida)
2 tsp oil
2 tsp salt

Other Ingredients
plain for rolling
ghee for cooking

For the stuffing

    For the stuffing
  1. Heat the oil in a kadhai, add the asafoetida and cumin seeds.
  2. When the seeds crackle, add the coriander powder, red chilli powder and mooong dal, mix well and saute for 2 minutes.
  3. Add 4 cups of water and salt, cover and cook till the dal becomes soft and water is evaporated.
  4. Remove from the flame, cool and add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  5. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and keep aside.

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, mix well and knead into a soft dough, using enough water.
  2. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and keep aside.

How to proceed

  1. Roll out a portion of the dough into a circle of 4” diameter.
  2. Place a portion of the stuffing at the centre and bring the edges together at the centre to seal tightly.
  3. Roll out again into a circle of 6” diameter, using little flour for rolling.
  4. Heat a tava and cook each paratha, using little oil, till golden brown spots appear on both the sides.
  5. Repeat the same steps to make 7 more parathas.
  6. Serve hot.
