Monsoon Recipes, Indian Rainy Day Food

monsoon recies, indian rains foods to to eat

Monsoon Food from Pakodas to Rasam, Buttery Corn On The Cob to Peaches in season

Buttery Corn On The CobButtery Corn On The Cob

Most of us cannot resist popular Indian street food, whatever the season. If you can’t stay away from it in the rainy season, remember at least not to eat uncooked food or foods that need high amounts of water, like chaat, golas, kulfis, etc. A good option is freshly roasted bhutta or buttery corn on the cob. Boiled corn seasoned with salt and pepper is also a great idea.

A good idea in the rainy season is to stick to hot foods such as soup. Sip on piping hot rasam; its mix of asafoetida, curry leaves, tomato, red chilli, coconut, mustard seeds, onions, garlic and ginger has an anti-inflammatory effect and also helps prevent joint pains and stiffness.

Pakoras + Chai in the monsoon

hot pakoras with cutting chai is my favourite combo in the Indian monsoons. Come monsoon and our hearts start yearning for something spicy and crunchy to munch on, that’s when pakodas come into the picture. The ever popular combination of piping hot pakoda and cutting chai is a famous street food of Mumbai.

Even those who are very health-conscious cannot resist munching on just a pakoda or two with their evening chaai! Indeed, savoury snacks like pakore are as much a part of our lifestyle as mithai is a part of our culture. While traveling across the Punjab one comes across the one of the most delicious yet simple snack, Paneer Pakoda.

The Moong Dal Pakoda, with its unique texture, is an all-time favourite sold across Mumbai by street vendors. Maharashtrains use a lot of peanuts in their cooking and Peanut Pakora along with some chopped spinach is loved by them.

Indian Teas and Indian Drinks in the monsoon.

Nothing like having tea or Indian drinks in the monsoon. See our collection of Indian teas to choose from. Add cinnamon to hot water infusions (with honey); this helps keep away water-borne diseases. Try our collection of teas like  Ginger Cinnamon Tea, Fresh Mint and Lemon Tea, Lemon Tea, Honey Lemon Tea, and Black Tea.
