So used are we to having a refrigerator at home that it is now difficult to even imagine how our ancestors managed without this wonderful kitchen appliance! Indeed, this amazing appliance helps to keep our food and drinks fresh and cool. It enables us to stock up on veggies and milk, not to forget the preservation of batters, sauces and even leftovers.

When you have a refrigerator, you can prepare salads and juices like the Broccoli and Pear Juice and Cabbage and Grape Salad a few hours in advance and keep them chilled till serving time.

The handiest ingredients ginger- garlic paste & ginger-green chilli paste can be made in large quantities and stored in the refrigerator. Just add a hint of these while cooking any Indian subzis/ curries and enjoy tongue-tickling preparations.

You can also prepare handy ingredients like chutneys, sauces and salad dressings and preserve them for a few days. Be it chutney, dips, raita or sauces, side dishes always perk up a meal. Here is a list of a few of my favorite refrigerated accompaniments :

When you add setting agents like gelatin, agar agar, etc. it is mandatory to keep the dessert in a refrigerator for some hours so, it acquires the required texture. Vanilla Pudding with Chocolate Sauce, Eggless Vanilla Panna Cotta with Plum Compote are some delectable wobbly desserts. Also, thickening agents like custard powder added in delights like Date and Custard Dessert, Strawberry Stew with Banana Custard are required to be refrigerated for some hours before serving.
