Ganesh Chaturthi recipes
Lord Ganesh is welcomed into millions of homes each year. For 10 days he is adorned and worshipped lovingly and all his favourite delicacies are handmade each day to offer as Prashad like Modak and Laddus.
During morning prayers a cup of milk or curd is offered to the lord Ganesh. All functions and religious Hindu Poojas must have Panchamrut Prasad which is a combination of milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. Basil is also added to this as its said that goddess Laxmi resides in the Tulsi plant making the Prasad holier.
For lunch what is offered to God is Varan Bhaat , Bhakri, Usal and Maharashtrian Pitla. What ever is cooked in the Maharashtrian home is first offered to God and then eaten by the family.
For dinner Masala Bhaat, Puri , Aloo Sabzi. Plain rice and curd is commonly offered and at times a variation of rice and milk with sugar is offered to God.
