Apple sauce

Apple sauce is a basic apple puree which can be cooked or uncooked and is flavoured with spices like cinnamon and sweetened with sugar. The difference between apple sauce and apple puree is that apple sauce may include large chunks of apple which is devoid in apple puree. It is commonly consumed in the US where it is served by itself. Apple sauce comes in various textures- it may be coarse or a fine paste.

To make 1 cup apple sauce at home, follow this easy recipe.

Peel, core and deseed the apples (2 to 3 large) and cut into quarters. Place in a saucepan along with 2 to 3 tbsp sugar (depending on the tartness of the apples). Add 1 tsp of lemon juice and cover and cook on a medium flame for 8 to 10 minutes, or till the apples are soft. The moisture in the apples is enough to cook them and there is no need to add water. Once cooked, add spices like ground cinnamon, allspice etc and cook for 2 more minutes. Cool and puree in a blender. Reheat if required.
