A vegetarian version of classic chinese rice. Pepper flavoured rice is served with fragrant gravy made of vegetables and sauces.

For The Rice
4 cups cooked rice (chawal)
2 tbsp oil
salt to taste
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper (kalimirch) powder powder

For The Gravy
1 onion , chopped
1/2 cup broccoli , florets
1/2 cup carrot , diced
2/3 cup shitake mushrooms , diced
1 cup tomatoes , diced
3 green chillies , slit green chillies
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp white pepper powder
2 cups vegetable stock
2 tsp cornflour
2 tbsp sesame (til) oil

For rice

  1. Heat oil in a wok over a medium flame, add the rice, salt and pepper and mix well. Keep aside.

For gravy

    For gravy
  1. Heat the sesame oil in a wok , sauté carrots, broccoli , onions , tomatoes and mushroom over medium heat for 2 minutes. Add vegetable stock and bring it to boil.
  2. Add soy sauce, sugar, and salt. Mix well and bring to boil again.
  3. As soon as it is boiling, add sesame oil and white pepper powder for flavoring. Add cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water.

How to proceed

  1. In a serving plate , place 2 scoops of rice and top with 1 scoop of gravy.
  2. Repeat with the remaining rice and gravy.
  3. Serve it hot.
