1/2 cup grated coconut
3 tbsp pottu kadalai or 3 tbspns fried chana dal (split Bengal gram)
4 to 6 green chillies
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 to 1 tsp lemon juice

For Seasoning:
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1 tsp urad dal (split black lentils)
curry leaves (kadi patta) - a sprig
2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies, deseeded & broken up
2 tbsp oil
1/4 to1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)

  1. Grind all the above ingredients, add limejuice; mix well.
  2. Season with the seasoning & serve with iddly, dosa; adai; uppuma; etc.,
