For basic toovar dal recipe

  1. To make {span class="bold1"}toovar dal recipe{/span}, combine the dal, onions, tomatoes, green chilli, turmeric powder and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
  3. Remove the slit green chilli, add 1 cup of water and salt and whisk well. Keep aside.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan, add the cumin seeds, garlic, asafoetida and curry leaves and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
  5. Add the dry red chilies and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
  6. Add the dal mixture, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  7. Add the coriander and mix well.
  8. Serve the {span class="bold1"}toovar dal{/span} hot.
