1/4 cup bajra (black millet)
6 tbsp bajra (black millet) flour
1/4 cup cooked rice (chawal)
1/4 cup chopped mixed vegetables
1/2 cup spinach (palak) puree
1 tsp ginger- green chilli paste
1/2 tsp finely chopped garlic (lehsun)
1 onion , finely chopped
1 tsp finely chopped celery
1/2 tsp dried mixed herbs
2 tbsp butter
salt and freshly ground black pepper powder powder to taste
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
4 tsp fresh cream for garnishing
chopped coriander (dhania) leaves to garnish
bread sticks to serve
  1. Soak the bajra for 6-7 hours in enough water, drain and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or till cooked. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the butter in a deep pan, add the garlic and sauté for a minute.
  3. Add the celery and onions and sauté till the onions turn translucent.
  4. Add the bajra flour and saute for few minutes.
  5. Add 5 cups of water and bring to boil.
  6. Add cooked bajra, vegetables, ginger- green chilli paste, salt, pepper and mixed herbs, mix well and cook till vegetables are almost soft and cooked.
  7. Add the spinach puree and more water if required to adjust to the consistency and bring the mixture to boil.
  8. Remove from the flame and add the lemon juice and mix well.
  9. To serve, divide the cooked rice in 4 serving soup bowls, pour the hot broth on top.
  10. Garnish with fresh cream and coriander.
  11. Serve immediately with garlic bread.
