 Is Maize flour healthy?

  Last Updated : Feb 07,2019

Is Maize flour healthy?

Maize flour also called as corn meal and Makai ka atta. It is yellow coloured flour with coarse texture. Corn meal is made by grinding corn kernels into a coarse powder. Unlike cornstarch, processing cornmeal doesn’t involve the separation of bran, germ and endosperm, so you are able to retain more of the nutrients in the corn than with, say, cornstarch.

Uses of Maize Flour
Cornmeal is used in the baking industry for making bread, cakes, and biscuits. It is also used as a filler, binder and carrier in meat products and snacks.

The methi used in combination with makai ka atta makes a delectable variation of the traditional makai ki roti. A bowl of thick curds is all that is required along with these roti to make a satisfying breakfast or a quick meal.
The dazzling combo of methi and mooli makes this paratha a super-hit! Both radish and fenugreek leaves are ingredients with rare and unique flavours, including a bit of bitterness that is actually pleasing to taste. So, this paratha does not need too many spices to perk up its flavour. A little bit of common ingredients to balance the flavour, and that’s it, you have an awesome paratha that is ideal to have for breakfast. As this paratha is made with maize flour, it has a different mouth-feel too, which everyone will relish. The Makai Mooli and Methi Paratha is a popular breakfast recipe in the Punjab region. It can be served simply with curds and pickles. Try other Punjabi Breakfast recipes like Aloo Kulcha or Gobi Paratha .
Time to tango with tangy oranges! This green and orange salsa not only looks good but also tastes good, and is healthy as well. There is a tinge of innovativeness at play too… salsa is usually made with tomatoes and capsicum, but here I have made it with citrus fruits. This unique, light-baked dish serves as a nutritive and tasty snack. For the salsa to taste best, ensure that you select just-ripe fruits which are sweet and tangy. You can make the salsa in advance too and store in the refrigerator.

Unleavened rotis of wheat and maize flour, Tikkar is a mouth-watering delicacy from the dessert province of Rajasthan. Cooked with ghee, this crisp bread is wonderfully flavoured with ginger, garlic, onions, and more, which makes it enough to serve it with a simple accompaniment of curds and pickle. Just make sure you serve it immediately before it hardens. Also try other traditional Rajasthani rotis like Bejar Roti , Missi Roti and Khoba Roti .
