Um, ever met someone who does not like pizzas or one who can resist any other pizza flavoured treat!?  No. Crispy thin crusts or cheese loaded crust topped with veggies and sauces, pizzas can be made and relished just the way you like it. While you are reading this and dreaming about pizza right now, I need to talk about someone who loves Dhokla more than pizza

Yes, 4kgs of khatta dhokla for appetizers at a birthday party does sound crazy! But, hands down there were 30 odd guests who enjoyed munching on them at the birthday party. This Gujarati delight surely holds a special space in most people’s heart. Moreover, they are not only tasty but also, healthy!  Here are a few health benefits of Dhokla : 

1. Dhoklas are steamed. They hardly make use of any oil, making them low in calories and lighter on the stomach.

3. The fermentation of the batter enhances its nutritive value. They are rich in protein and dietary fiber.

4. They have a low glycemic index.  

5. You can eat them any time of the day and make them using a combination of various ingredients like moong dal, besan, rava, oats etc.

Although several ready mixes are available to do the job quickly, these cannot match the taste of traditional Khatta Dhokla made with a homemade batter. Here, we show you how to make authentic Khatta Dhokla using a batter of rice and urad. Seasoned with black pepper and chilli powder, this steamed Gujarati snack is super tasty and amazingly soft too. Serve it with Green Cutney as a starter or as an evening snack . You can also try other Gujarati farsan recipes like Dakor Na Gota or Samosa .

Spread 1 tbsp of cheese spread evenly on the rolled and pricked dough leaving a little space near the edges. Place 5 cheese slices over the cheese spread, overlapping each other. Place the half cooked pizza base over it and fold the sides of the bottom dough inwards and press it lightly. Spread 2½ tbsp of pizza sauce, 1/8 cup onions, 1/8 cup capsicum, 5 sliced jalapenos, 1 tbsp black olives, ½ cup grated cheese, ½ tsp dried oregano and ½ tsp chilli flakes evenly over it. Repeat steps 4 to 11 to make 1 more pizza. Bake both the pizzas in a pre-heated oven at 200°c (400°f) for 20 minutes. Drizzle 1 tbsp of olive oil evenly over each pizza.
