A traditional East Indian sweet delicacy, coconut pitha is prepared from rice flour, sesame(til) seeds and grated coconut. This delicious pitha typically uses coconut and sugar/jaggery mix as filling and is served hot with kheer.

Ingredients

5 to 6 cloves of garlic (lehsun)
1/2 " piece of ginger (adrak)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
half cup of water in which tamarind has been dissolved
3 tbsp oil
1/2 Kg fish - shark or catfish
1 onion, finely chopped
12 dried red chillies
1/4 tsp cummin seeds
4 black peppercorns (kalimirch)
Method


  1. Method:
  2. Cut the fish into medium pieces, rub in salt and set aside.
  3. Grind all the other ingredients except the onion into a paste (masala) with a little water.
  4. Fry the onion until brown.
  5. Add the masala and fry for a minute.
  6. Add 1 cup of water.
  7. Bring to boil then add fish.
  8. Cook on low heat until tender.
  9. Add a little salt and vinegar to taste.
  10. Serve with plain boiled rice.
