2 cups washed and soaked rice (chawal)
2 small onions , cut lenghtwise
4 tomatoes , pureed
3 to 4 green chillies , slit
3 to 4 flakes of garlic (lehsun) , chopped
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp chilli powder
1 tbsp biryani masala powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
salt to taste
coriander (dhania) leaves to garnish

  1. Heat oil in a cooker, when hot add rai. when splutters add jeera and sliced onion.
  2. Cook till transparent. then add slit green chilies, red chilli pd, dhaniya pd, haldi pd, biryani masala and cook for 2 mins.
  3. Then add tamato puree and again cook for 5 mins stirring continously.
  4. Then add abt 2 cups water and soaked rice and salt to taste.
