For the covering:
1/2 cup plain flour (maida)
1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp salt
oil for frying

For the filling:
2 spring onions
1/2 carrot
8 french fries
4 tbsp oil
1/2 cup shredded cabbage
1/2 tsp white pepper powder
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp M.S.G
salt to taste

For sealing the rolls:
1 tbsp cornflour
1 tbsp water

  1. Peel and mince onions.scrape carrots,string french.beans.
  2. Drop carrot, cabbage and french beans in boiling water for two minutes.
  3. Drain and shred carrot and beans.
  4. Heat oil, stir fry onions over high flame for two minutes. add carrot, beans, cabbage, ajinomoto, pepper, sugar and salt.
  5. Stir fry again for two minutes. add soya sauce and mix well.
  6. Remove from fire and divide the mix into 2 portions..set aside

  1. Sift together flour and salt. add water gradually, beating well to make a smooth batter.
  2. Heat a greased pan, reduce flame,and spread out half the batter to make a round pancake
  3. Remove when the underside is set. do not cook the other side.repeat with the remaining batter.
  4. Cool the 2 pancakes on a dry cloth, cooked side up.
  5. Mix together corn flour and water. set aside.
  6. Place a portion of the cooked filling onto the cooked side of the pancake, at one end..ie the end nearest to you.
  7. Fold the right and left sides and roll upwards.
  8. Seal the edges with the corn flour paste[or beaten egg]
  9. Make the other rolls in the same way.
  10. Heat oil, when it smokes, lower the spring rolls until golden all over.
  11. Drain on absorbent paper and cut into 2 inch squares with a sharp knife.
  12. Serve hot on a bed of shredded cabbage or lettuce.
  13. Serve hot with schezwan sauce or tomato ketchup.
  14. Note: you can also replace veggies(carrot, beans. cabbage) with cooked and shredded chicken pieces
