Spicy orange rice recipe - How to make Spicy orange rice

3 table spoon of oil
1 tablespoon of butter or ghee
1 tablespoon of cumin seeds
1-2 red whole dried chilies
1 bay leaf or tamalpatra
2-3 whole black pepper
1 medium onion, sliced
1 cup brown or white rice
1 teaspoon orange zest
3 tablespoon of pulpy orange juice
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon of chili paste
½ tablespoon of garlic paste
2 cups vegetable stock or 2 cups of water
salt to taste
Cilantro leaves and orange slices for garnishing

  1. 1) take a pan and add oil and butter. add dried chilies, bay leaf and whole black pepper into it. now add cumin seeds.
  2. 2) when the cumin seeds splutters add onions till they are translucent. add the ginger, garlic and chili paste now.
  3. 3) now add rice and sauté them for 1 minute or until they look crispy.
  4. 4) add the orange zest and orange juice.
  5. 5) add the vegetable stock or water. add salt to taste. cover the pan with a lid and cook over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes or until rice is tender.
  6. 6) garnish it with orange slices and cilantro.
